The Hyundai Kona, which made its debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, is confirmed to launch in India by 2019. It will become the first electric vehicle from the South Korean carmaker to be sold in India. Hyundai has confirmed that it will be manufacturing its upcoming Kona electric locally in India at its Chennai plant. The expected launch date in India is around july 2019.

The Hyundai Kona Electric will be available in two powertrain options: the long-range version with a 64kWh battery with 482km range on a single charge. and a short-range version with a 39.2kWh battery pack with about 312km claimed range. The Hyundai Kona electric can go up to 350 km on a single charge which takes about 30 minutes to an hour through 100kW DC fast charger or 6 to 7 hours from a standard AC source.

Hyundai Kona Electric is going to launch in India with an estimated price of Rs. 25 -30 lakh(ex-showroom). As far as its competition is concerned, the Kona EV will not have any direct rival in the Indian market. However, it will take on likes of the similarly priced SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming Mahindra Rexton.
