What is the ‘New Normal’ for us bikers?

I love going outside and my bike has always been my companion. I have been an avid biker my whole life and towards the end of March when a lockdown was announced for a period of 21 days, one of the thoughts that came to my mind was the weekend rides that I’d be missing. Bike riding has always given me this freedom to just ride and explore places.

The lockdown took away that freedom and it wasn’t a good feeling at all. I am sure a lot of you went through the same emotions about this. It has been five months since then and it appears like the pandemic is in no hurry and is here to stay with us for a while. But thankfully, the lockdown has been in an unlock mode now and the regulations aren’t as strict anymore. It is now possible to step out, travel and explore once again. That being said, it is obvious that things have changed and all of us have had to adapt to what is being labelled as the ‘New Normal’.

We have all been learning things one day at a time and adjusting as well as we can to the whole situation. But if you are a biker like me, the one question we all want to know the answer to is, how to go back to riding a motorcycle after a lockdown in India? There are clearly going to be a few challenges when you decide to get back on your bike after all this time. For most of us, bike rides are going to have to be within city limits. Group rides should also be avoided for the time being since it is difficult to maintain social distancing and it does not fit into the regulations set by the authorities.

It will also be wise to ride fully prepared under the assumption that no shops are going to be open along the way and also because you’d want to avoid as much public interaction as possible. So, fill your fuel tank to the maximum and carry some food and snacks with you if it’s going to be a long ride.

One thing that I cannot stress enough on while talking about bike riding is safety measures. Pandemic or no pandemic, bike riding is always going to be an adventurous and exhilarating sport and it is important to take safety very seriously. Apart from the usual measures of wearing proper riding gear, following traffic rules and so on it is now also important to sanitize and adding a sanitizer to the list of safety measures.

Another thing which will become a part of the new normal is a face mask. In my quest to look for a mask that was perfect, I discovered the masks from Welspun Health. The liquid-resistant reusable masks by Welspun Health are impeccable. They are 100% liquid-resistant so you can be assured of getting the best protection. They are made from Welspun Nano care Fabric and are comfortable to wear. They also offer 99.9% bacterial protection and are available in various colors. I have taken these along on a few rides in the last couple of weeks and I am happy with the results and personally vouch for the fact that they are #MadeToProtect.

I know that you are all waiting to get on your bike and go on those long rides like before. But for now, we are going to have to learn to live with the new normal. Until then, put your mask on when you step out, keep patience, and happy traveling!
